Cane Cholla AKA Whipple Cholla (Opuntia whipplei, imbricata SEED)

Opuntia whipplei/imbricata is commonly known as "Cane Cactus, Whipple Cholla, or Jumping Cholla."

When mature, it bears purple, red, orange, or yellow flowers. It then forms edible fruits which are yellow in color when ripe.

A desert native, Cane cholla is very drought tolerant. It grows naturally at elevations of 1,000-6,000 feet. Cactus wrens, Curved-billed thrashers, and owls often build their nests in Cane cholla.

This cacti will do well in sunny locations, provided it is given excellent drainage and is not overwatered.

Full planting and care instructions are included. Our cane cholla is naturalized to the severe shifts in temperature of the high elevations of the Western Mojave desert, and has survived repeated snowfall with temperatures to 10 degrees F. (as pictured!)
